Wedding PlanningNC

The Quincy College Wedding Planning Non-Credit Certificate Program (WPC 101) is a 30 hour, ten-week program, which awards successful graduates with a certificate in completion.

The class meets once a week and will cover the many elements that go into producing a wedding celebration. Students will learn the rituals and customs of traditional and specialty weddings, contemporary trends and practices as well as pricing and planning techniques. Guest lecturers will share insight on topics including uncovering design concepts that pertain exclusively to weddings.

To enhance the students’ learning, a variety of teaching methods are used, including classroom group projects, online learning, industry field trips and guest lectures.

  • Develop a detailed timeline of the preparations and steps leading up to a wedding celebration
  • State how the wedding elements selected can address the goals and objectives of couples
  • Record the various costs associated with producing a wedding (budget)
  • Create a production plan that includes details on vendors/suppliers, services and timing for a one-day or multi-day wedding celebration
  • Identify the steps needed to launch a success wedding planning business

Meet the Instructor

Karen Salhaney Smizer | Quincy College Karen Salhaney Smizer brings over 20 years of planning various types of events and brings her eye for design and sense of style to each event. She has planned, designed and executed weddings, rehearsal dinners, holiday parties, large black tie galas,  business seminars, non-profit fund raisers and more.

Karen is committed to connecting her students to career opportunities in her role as the Director of Career Development & Internships at Quincy College. She strives to give back through being a guest speaker at a variety of seminars and conferences. She holds a Master’s Degree in NP Management at Eastern University and a Bachelor’s Degree Business from Emmanuel College.
