  STEP TWO
Quincy College Placement Assessment

If you are a first-time Quincy College student who intends to earn a college degree or certificate*, whether you are taking one course or five courses, we're here to help you succeed. As you might realize, your English and Math skills are the foundation for every course you take at Quincy College. That's why we have introduced an assessment plan for our new students, a plan that national statistics proves works. All new students will have a "new student hold" placed on their account until the assessment process is complete. New students who have not completed the assessment at the time of registration will be allowed to enroll for courses, but the hold will not be lifted. These students will have to complete the assessment process and have the hold permanently removed by the end of the semester. Students who do not complete the assessment procedure will not receive grades or transcripts and will not be allowed to enroll in future courses. All new international students must take the Levels of English Proficiency (LOEP) assessment and the Math assessment to determine appropriate placement in ESL or academic support courses. This requirement will be waived for all international transfer students if they are transferring English Composition I and an equivalent Math course. To complete the assessment procedure, please follow these simple directions for assessment.

1) Complete the Assessment

If you have submitted your application prior to the start of the semester, you will be sent an acceptance letter. If you have not already scheduled a time for the placement test, please call 617-984-1710. Once you complete the assessment in English and Math, the computer will generate scores and also the titles of appropriate courses for these scores. The next step is to take your printed test scores to an academic advisor.

2) Meet with an Academic Advisor

You can meet with an academic advisor Monday through Thursday from 8am - 7pm and Friday 8am - 5pm to discuss your scores and create a schedule that reflects the courses appropriate to your assessment. Advisors can be seen by appointment (617-984-1710) or they also have an open door policy (Newport Hall 121). Staff in assessment can direct you to the nearest advisor should you decide to meet with them immediately following your assessment. To verify completion of the assessment procedure, new students must have an advisor sign their registration form to be presented at Enrollment Services whether in person, or via mail or fax. Once received, the "new student hold" will be removed. Students who mail, fax, or present their registration forms at Enrollment Services without both having taken the assessment and met with an advisor will be initially enrolled, but must complete the assessment process by the end of the semester to receive full student benefits. The "new student hold" will not be removed until verification of a meeting with an advisor is presented to Enrollment Services.

3) Register for Courses

New students need to complete the assessment, meet with an advisor and register in Enrollment Services. There will be extended hours for assessment and advising, both day and evening, during the registration period. If you have any questions please call the Admissions Office at 617-984-1710.

*All students in allied health and the computer applications grant program are tested prior to admittance and are not eligible for book vouchers.

If you need to schedule an Allied Health entrance test please be sure to pay the $25.00 fee prior to scheduling an appointment. This $25 fee is paid either in person at the Enrollment Services Office or over the phone by using a credit card. When you have paid the Allied Health fee, you may schedule the exam in person at our Advising Office, or by calling 617-984-1710. The testing center is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

  STEP THREE
Registration Form

Both first-time and returning students must submit a registration form to enroll in desired courses. Students should include course number and section (ENG-101-01, for example); course title and when it meets. Payment must be received, in full, at the time of registration. PLEASE NOTE THAT REFUNDS CAN BE PROCESSED MUCH MORE QUICKLY WHEN PAID BY CREDIT CARD.  First-time Quincy College students may register by visiting Enrollment Services or by mailing your registration form with payment to:
Quincy College Enrollment Services
150 Newport Avenue Ext.
North Quincy, MA 02171

If you are a returning student, you may fax your registration form with credit card information to 617-984-1794. Note** All new students who are degree/certificate seekers must meet with an academic advisor prior to registering (see step two).

  STEP FOUR
Health Insurance Waiver

All students who are enrolled in 9 or more credits in a semester, or who plan to enroll in 9 or more credits in a semester (generally 3 courses), are required to have basic health insurance. By law, Quincy College automatically charges all students who are registered for 9 or more credits with this health insurance fee. Coverage is $25,000. Additional coverage may be purchased at additional cost.

If a student has comparable health insurance (most HMO and PPO plans qualify), then the student must
click here to complete a waiver online for the College to remove these charges from the student's account.

Visit www.universityhealthplans.com for more information about the health insurance waiver. If you have any questions, please contact the Quincy College Business Office at (617) 984-1630.

If you have any questions, call Enrollment Services at 1-800-698-1700.
