115 Quincy College Students
Inducted
into Gamma Beta Phi Society
The Gamma Beta Phi Society, Quincy College’s
largest student organization, inducted 115
new members
on Wednesday, October 26, 2005. The ceremony was held
at Bethany Congregational Church in Quincy and was well-attended
by scores of family, friends, and members of the Quincy
College community.
The honor and service society’s
Chapter Advisor, Joe Bradley, commenced the event
with a warm greeting to the new members and introduced
several presenters. Quincy College student and Chapter
Vice-President Virdis Bala’s communication
of the objectives of the Society was followed by
an explanation of the Gamma Coat of Arms by Professor
Anna Williams-Cote.
William Ganjui, a chapter member who
is originally from Cameroon, offered personal and
thoughtful insights to the new members about the
benefits of becoming a Gamma Beta Phi member and
the spiritual mission of the organization. His
reflections on his experience as a Gamma in the past
year provided
honest, meaningful insights. Following Ganjui was
Quincy College President Martha Sue Harris, the
keynote speaker of the evening. Harris offered words
of inspiration
and commendation to the new members, in addition
to sharing personal experiences both as a student
and educator. Representing the College’s
Board of Governors, Chair Theresa Lord-Piatelli
was also
on hand to congratulate students.
Four Quincy College students were installed
as chapter officers: Joleena Tate – Chapter
President; Virdis Bala – Vice-President; Sherri
McArthur – Chapter Secretary; and Geraldine
Kine – Chapter Treasurer.
Following the induction, the new inductees
and their friends and family enjoyed a reception
in Bethany’s Allan Room catered by Craig’s
Café of Quincy.
New members to be eligible must have been
enrolled in a degree program and have completed at least
twelve credit hours of college work with a GPA of 3.0
or higher, and be committed to excellence in education,
good character and service. The new members inducted
