The Quincy Granite Men’s soccer team (1-9) continues to play solid in the tough NJCAA Region 21 schedule, but the wins have been hard to come by for this year’s young team, laden with freshman players. After two tough overtime losses in early October, the Granite took on league leading and 2018-2019 Region 21 champions Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) in an October 15th match.

The young granite squad fought hard playing the champions holding them to 2-0 at halftime but BHCC finished with a resounding 9-1 victory. Coach Idris Senyonjo did have praise for the efforts of Gareth McAlinden, Rafael Pina Garcia, Ryan Mcwade, and Carlos Cuilty in this tough league match.

Quincy College Granite then started a busy week, facing Holyoke Community College. Granite offense showed signs of life as they came away with a 6-3 defeat. The Granite finished the week with a Saturday October 19th 5-3 loss to Springfield Tech Community College. Caio DeCastilho of Cotiut, Peter Okeko and Rafael DeMacedo of Quincy all scored as the Granite Men’s Soccer showed promise offensively. While Quincy College Granite are out of playoff contention Quincy College Granite hopes to conclude the season with strong finish with two home games this week facing Roxbury Community College and Bristol Community College. The Bristol Community College game will be played at Creedon Field in North Quincy at 11:00am on Saturday, October 26.

In addition to Quincy College Granite Men’s Soccer, Quincy College Athletics is proud of the efforts of the inaugural co-ed Cross Country teams under the leadership of Head Coach and Quincy Native, John Furey.

Quincy College students Svetlana Dunn of Brockton and Sam Lathrop of Pembroke captain the Cross Country Running Club. This season, the running club has competed in the Mass maritime Invitational and the Suffolk University Open Invitational at Franklin Park on Saturday, October 19th. Running hard for the Granite on the men’s side were Lathrop, Lorkens Exumat of Dorchester and Patrick Joseph of Brockton.

Competing for Granite Women’s team with Team Captain Dunn are Emerald Anderson of Weymouth, Ayana Dahl of Braintree, Yemi Okufuwa of Randolph, Eliza Padre of Weymouth, Nyjah Poole of Dorchester and Shamaeria Guerrant of Cambridge.

Quincy College Athletics hopes to organize and host the Quincy Granite Cup Cross Country Meet with Eastern Nazarene College in early November. Athletic Director Jack Raymer and Coach Furey are excited about the new Cross Country running club offered at Quincy College and look forward to recruiting additional student athletes for the Spring and Fall of 2020.
