QUINCY — City officials, recovery specialists and medical professionals will be in Quincy next week to speak at a public forum on substance abuse disorder hosted by the City of Quincy.

At 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, the school’s Student Success Office will host the public forum.

Laura Martin, the City of Quincy’s substance use prevention coordinator, Joe White of the Archdiocese of Boston’s addiction recovery pastoral support service, and Dr. Todd A. Kerensky, a physician at South Shore Health, will be on the panel. The forum will be moderated by Lori Earl, a student success coach at Quincy College.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community organizations will staff resource tables and provide information for those struggling with addiction.

“Quincy College understands the importance of working to reduce the stigma around the issues of substance use disorders so that individuals struggling with addiction and their loved ones feel more comfortable speaking up and reaching out for support,” Earl said. “We recognize the impact of communities connecting with each other to build solutions.”

Participating community groups include, A New Way Recovery Center, Alcoholics Anonymous, Quincy Family Resource Center, South Shore Peer Recovery and others.

In addition to the forum, several people, some of whom are Quincy College students, will share personal stories of recovery.
