QUINCY — The Quincy College Granite Men’s basketball team entered the final weeks of the year, focused on finals and the end of the semester, with a 6 – 0 record with four competitive games to conclude the first half of their season.
The Granite concluded the first half of their 2019-2020 season with a 9 – 1 record, leading National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXI and are ranked 9th in the country in competitive play. Granite student athletes continue to lead offensive efforts for the region; Anthony Peacock leads in rebounds and a strong FG PCT; with D. Scott Hankerson leading with 22.4 points per game with Jerome Stephens and C Jefferson offensive efforts ranking highly.
The Granite started the week of December 9th, with a 97 – 66 victory over rival 3-6 Massasoit Community College. Damani Scott from Mansfield led all scorers with 27 points and Braintree native Anthony Peacock added 24 points as a fine team effort resulted in a strong effort. On December 12th, Quincy then faced the Eastern Nazarene College junior varsity team and came away with a solid 85 – 75 victory. The Granite offense was led by Peacock who had 32 points 18 rebounds with offensive support by Jerome Stephens and Damani Scott who posted 21 and 20 points respectively.
On Saturday, December 14th, Quincy College Granite’s big showdown came in the form of Gateway Community College. Granite ran into a buzz-saw as a fast, experienced Gateway team handed Quincy its first loss of the year 88 – 69. Damani Scott scored 21 points. The Granite finished the 1st half of the season by rebounding with a buzzer beater victory on Wednesday, December 18th over Mass Bay Community College, 77 – 75.
Granite Head Coach Doug Scott lauded the efforts of all his players as they have come together as a team to proudly represent the Quincy College community in the very competitive competition of Region 21 Basketball. Quincy will resume the second half of the season on January 18th as they continue their quest for a playoff appearance for the first time in their 3rd year of NJCAA play.
