Quincy College staff have volunteered to ring the bell for Salvation Army at it’s red kettle Friday Dec. 16 from 9am – 5pm at Southern Artery Stop & Shop, 495 Southern Artery, Quincy, MA 02169.
In addition to this day of volunteerism, Quincy College is a proud kettle sponsor of this bell location for a month.
This event is but one of many year-round, local Quincy College events that support Salvation Army’s community programs and initiatives.
This past Fall, Quincy College and the City of Quincy hosted an annual charity softball game at which the Salvation Army was the beneficiary.
“The City of Quincy was excited to participate in a softball challenge game against Quincy College earlier this Fall. While the City may have lost by a few points, the true winner of this partnership was the Salvation Army, to which both teams donated their participation fee,” Maureen Geary, Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Quincy.
Quincy College President Peter H. Tsaffaras participated in Salvation Army’s of Massachusetts’ Christmas in July event, a one day campaign to benefit local Salvation Army services such as emergency services, youth programs, and food pantry services earlier this year. This is in addition to his role as Kettle Captain in previous years during the holiday season.
“What started as an annual tradition for Quincy College to join in the Salvation Army’s efforts of giving back to those who are a bit less fortunate during the holiday season has transitioned to a year-round emphasis on supporting those in need in our local community, “ Tsaffaras said. “Need is not dictated by the time of year. Support is needed year-round in raising critical funds for services like emergency services, youth programs, and the local food pantry.”
“I look forward to continuing to support local programs here in Quincy and on the South Shore year-round and toward the Quincy College community coming together on December 16th as an effort to give back to the communities that surround our campuses.”
