QUINCY —

Quincy College alumni, staff, faculty, students, Boston Police officials, and community members, civic leaders, and businesses from across the South Shore attended an October 25th Quincy College 60th Anniversary event at the Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy to fete Quincy College’s six decades of educating the community.

In May of 1958, College Courses, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization, was officially formed to help further higher education on the South Shore. In the Fall of that same year, the first freshman class began at what will later be known as Quincy College.

Quincy College and the Quincy College Trust awarded the 2018 Quintessential Award to Quincy College Class of 2017 Graduate and Boston Police Commissioner William G. Gross.

Gross reflected on the value of Quincy College during a speech at the event: “Never forget where you came from, who worked with you. I’m glad you’re [Quincy College] here to lead the way. This is an accomplished dream. Aspirations filled. Whoever doubted me, look at me now. I graduated from Quincy College. This college is inspiration itself. What you do here changes lives.”

Gross elaborates: “This is not my award alone. I was raised by a community. This is what we feel in this room. In the classroom. This is what you feel in the college. Community.”

The event included speeches from Quincy College Interim President Michael Bellotti who will start his position at the College on Monday, October 29, 2018. The event was emceed by David Wade, Emmy Winning Anchor from WBZ.

The funds raised at the event were given generously by local area sponsors including Honorable Andrew H. Card Jr. & Reverend Kathleen M. Card, Dr. Richard Pitts ’67 and Mrs. Colleen Pitts, Boston Properties,
Century Bank, and College Courses Inc.

Funds raised will partially endow a new scholarship at the college; the William G. Gross Scholarship will be awarded in the Spring of 2019 in support of students studying Criminal Justice at the college.
