As the 2019-2020, Quincy College Men’s Soccer season began, Granite Head Idris Senyonjo knew it would take his young team time to jell at the start of a tough schedule in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 21 competition. Despite being 0-2 on the Season, Quincy College Granite Head Coach Senyonjo thinks his team is improving ahead of schedule after facing tough opponents, Springfield Tech and league leading Roxbury Community College, so early in the season.
With twelve freshmen on the roster of seventeen players for the 2019-2020 season, Quincy College Granite are led this year by veterans Gareth McAlinden of Plymouth, Annas Ashraf of Weymouth, Rafael Pena-Garcia and Derek Andrade of Quincy Mass. along with offensive threat Alexssander Lopes of Boston.
Quincy College’s returning players played strong in the first two contests in a 3 – 0 loss to Springfield Technical Community College and much closer game than the score indicated versus first place Roxbury Community College in a 5 – 1 final. Playing well defensively along with McAlinden is Weymouth native Jake Champagne, Carlos Cuilty of Medford, and Enes Serder of Quincy whose stellar defensive play as center back have kept games closely matched.
Stepping up offensively for the Granite are Nour, Lopes, Garcia, and newcomer Caio DeCastilho from Cotuit, Mass. DeCastilho scored Quincy’s first score of the season versus Roxbury Community College.
New to Quincy College Granite Men’s Soccer are Goalkeeper Andre Mardley of Quincy, Goalkeeper Geri Bezhani of Hanover, Forward Ryan Sempiana-McWade of Scituate, Defensive Midfield Peter Okeke of Randolph, Forward Aaron Herrera of Quincy, Forward Jorge Alfono of Brockton, Forward Kelvin Olanipekun of Boston and Forward Muhamed Rustamov of Weymouth.
Quincy College Granite will be home Saturday September 28th and will face Holyoke Community College. The game will be played at Weymouth High School (1 Wildcat Way, South Weymouth, MA 02190) at 1:00pm.
Joining Quincy College Athletics Men’s Soccer leadership is New Men’s Soccer Assistant Coach Roy Bandar to the staff whose experience has been a great help to 3rd year Head Coach Idris Senyonjo.
